Not only wine and grappa. The province of Vicenza is one of the most renowned in the Veneto Region for the variegated offer of digestive liquors, liquors of other kinds and aquavits, which are produced prevalently in the hillside and mountain areas. Krabenet, a white digestive liquor produced according to an ancient recipe with
juniper, herbs and alpine roots, is among the most important of these. It has a clear, crystalline colour, a particular intense taste and is produced in two versions: at 46° C and 40° C, by the distillery located at the highest altitude in Europe, in Asiago. Herbs and roots are also ingredients of the Asiago Amaro, a digestive liquor, which is distilled at 30°, obtained by alcoholic infusion with highland herbs. The Vicentine mountains are also the cradle of Kumetto, a liquor obtained through the infusion of cumin seeds, a plant that grows spontaneausly in the mountain meadows, which is also used in the kitchen as an aromatising agent for Sauer Kraut and other dishes. China Rossi should also be mentioned. It is a liquor prepared according to the
original herbalist recipe with the addiction of royal jelly; it is an exquisite liquor with tonic and strengthening properties which was awarded many times at international exhibits at the beginning of the twentieth century. The upper Vicentine area, finally, has several original typical liquors such as the Bassano “tagliatella”, a “cocktail” aperitive liquor that has high alcohol percentage (35%), then comes, Genziana, the Thienese Prugna and Breganze digestive liquor.
